UNGA intends to suspend Russia from the Human Rights Council.

A spokesman for the president of the UN General Assembly said a vote on whether to suspend Russia from the Human Rights Council would take place on Thursday or Friday.

The UN General Assembly will be resuming its emergency special meeting in the morning on Thursday. Paulina Kobiak Greer said the meeting would be open and speeches would be available on camera via UNTV.

The US ambassador to the United Nations on Tuesday presented a case to the UN Security Council for Russia's suspension from the Human Rights Council, which is being sought by him and other UN member states.

Speaking to the council on Tuesday, Ambassador Linda Thomas Greenfield said "Russia should not have authority in an institution that aims to promote respect for human rights." "Russia's participation in the Human Rights Council hurts the reputation of the Council. It harms the whole United Nations. And it is completely wrong."

The Human Rights Council is sitting in Geneva. The UN General Assembly will need a two-thirds vote to expel Russia from the HRC.
