Imran Khan put
a halt to the “Jail Bharo Tehreek”.
Mr. Imran Khan, current Chairman of
the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party and the former prime minister, has
announced the suspension of the 'Jail Bharo' movement soon after recent
decision made by the (SC) Supreme Court regarding the elections in Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) & Pubjab provinces.
The 'court arrest' movement was initiated
from Punjab (Lahore) on February 22 with the intended conclusion on March 1,
2023, where members and leaders of the Pakistan PTI would voluntarily surrender
themselves to authorities in their cities. Throughout the Jail Bharo movement, a
number of PTI activists and leaders, such as Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Asad Umar, Fayaz
ul Hasan Chohan and Zulfi Bukhari, had turned themselves in to the police in
cities including Peshawar, Lahore, Gujranwala
and Multan.
On 1st March, 2023, Mr. Khan,
took to Twitter to announce the suspension of the 'Jail Bharo' Tehreek following
a recent decision by the Supreme Court regarding elections in Punjab and Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).
